How a waterproof flooring can transform your home and life

Cores: waterproof vs water-resistant
The core's main job is to oversee the product's level of water resistance. When something is highly water-resistant, even almost waterproof, there’s a chance that liquid can still penetrate. The alternative means it's completely impenetrable.
Why you’ll want it in your house
- High-end design. Ask your waterproof flooring retailer to show you samples and you’ll be glad you did. You’ll have all the fashion and function of luxury vinyl (LVF), but with technologically advanced cores, WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) that provide an even higher level of water and moisture protection. No matter how much water there is, or for how long these cores will not peel or ripple.
LVF is a remarkably realistic mimic of wood, tile, or stone and it can be cut into planks or square tile-sized pieces. Images are taken with digital photography so they are clear and vibrant; texturing features, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered or distressed, give added depth and dimension. Finishes come in matte, gloss, and high gloss colors.
- Durability. The overall vinyl thickness should be at least 8-mm, but you may want to go as high as 12-mm if you have an active family with pets. The wear layer is the top clear melamine-coated sheet that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. It is impossible to "walk-off" the image. Wear layers are measured in mils and should measure 12-mils or 20-mils.
- Easy care: Sweep regularly, daily if possible, so dirt doesn’t embed and scratch. For deeper cleaning, use a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid any waxy, shine promoting cleaners as they can dull floors.
- Uncomplicated installation. The preferred technique here is the floating floor. Pieces click together to form a mat, then hover over the subfloor. Subfloors must be clean, dry, and level; although you can't see them, imperfections can telegraph to the surface floor and affect appearance. If needed, installers will sand the floor to even it out.
